Protect yourself from Lawsuits!

Ready to hire a Contractor in Washington State?

(Licensed, Bonded, Insured, = LBI for this article)

This subject is another problem area in the industry.
You have a huge and growing underground economy out there and it is growing daily.

Times are tough for contractors and they are getting worse.
From toll roads to more taxes to be a legal business in this state it's not easy.

As a homeowner as much as the temptation is to save $$$ you need to ask yourself is hiring someone who isn't LBI worth it?

What if they fall? Did you know they can sue you?
Yes, I agree it's not your fault but common sense in this country left long ago.

If they break anything in your house what assurance do you have they won't just leave as it costs more than the wages they have coming?

What are you going to do?

They don't pay their material bill do you know when materials are delivered to your job site they can come after you for the bill?

Is the money you save really worth the risk?

On the flip side does hiring a LBI contractor means you are going to receive quality work with great service? Nope, not true. I spend at least 40% of every years jobs repairing those so called experienced contractors work.

One of the ways workers who act as contractors answering craigslist adds get around not being LBI is using the oldest trick in the book................

"I'm working under my friends contractors license."

That may be true the friend said sure you can do that but does that mean when he falls off the scaffolding you aren't liable?

No, you are liable.

Why?

Because your contract has you paying with a check to them.

The money received for the work in your home isn't going through the LBI contractors books first then............... the REAL contractor paying them with a business check then you are placing your home at risk of a lawsuit if someone hurts themselves!

So what can you do to protect yourself?

Go to this link and follow the links to make sure not only are they LBI but they are CURRENT!!!

Another trick in the industry used is to place a contractor license number in an ad or on their business card so you THINK they are LBI!

Do not trust ANYONE!

Go to the link provided here and make sure the contractor number you are given is not only true but current.

Here is my license #  DRYWAG*915PR

I hope this information helps you.

Any questions please ask and I'll do my best to answer you.
